When You Wish Upon A Star

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all lived in a Disney movie (sans the evil villain parts.) All it would take is a wish on a star to make our dreams come true. Just like that we get the handsome prince, the beautiful gown, and the whole fairy tale. And a great soundtrack to boot!
I love wishing and dreaming for big things. It’s fun, there’s a sense of excitement and a little burst of energy in your heart. Growing up I was a big dreamer. I wished for all sorts of things (usually while lying on my back watching clouds.) I wished for fame, for beauty, to travel, and the ability to fly. I love being up high and always wanted to soar with the birds! Thankfully I never tried jumping off the roof.
Wishes are so exciting at first. Like thinking about a trip while looking at travel brochures. You ooh and aah for a bit and think about how much fun it would be. Then you put them on the shelf and forget about them. Every now and then you might take them down, blow off the dust, sigh and say “someday.” Then back on the shelf they go.
There isn’t anything wrong with wishing, in fact wishes a necessary part of the process. They help you visualize how you want things to turn out. Wishes can be the beginning of great things! But they can also be the end of the story. That trip never gets taken if all you ever do is look at those brochures.
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
What do you wish for? For a better job, a more fulfilling life, success, a partner, health, a muscled body?
What does it take to turn those wishes into reality? Well, I'm afraid it takes some effort. It takes making that wish into a concrete goal and putting a plan into action to get to that goal.
“Don’t wait for wishes to come true; go out and make
them a reality.”
- Dr. Seuss
Sounds more like a business seminar that a Disney movie, doesn’t it.
Think of it this way. That Disney magic didn’t happen without a goal, a plan, and a lot of little actions all along the way. Then poof, Cinderella isn’t mopping the floor anymore, Ariel has legs and her voice, and Pinocchio gets to be a real boy.
I feel a song coming on!
Until next time,
Alicia
